Belize
BELIZE! BELIZE! BELIZE! What a country, located on the Caribbean coast of Central America, bordered by Mexico and Guatemala. Believe it or not, you can actually drive from the USA all the way to Belize. A country with a wide diversity of adventure opportunities and home to the world's only Jaguar Preserve National Park. Belize City operates under the British parliamentary system where freedom of the press is practiced without any censorship.
Our visit to Belize was from our "Jazz Party At Sea" cruise hosted by the Jazz Club at Sea aboard the Norwegian Sun. We took one of the tours to the Belikin Beer Brewery. Our trip there provided a great tour of Belize with an insight into the lives of the Belizeans. During our ride we saw homes with bars on their windows, a Christmas store, a local neighborhood store, the Radisson Hotel, Continental Airlines office and a few others. The tour of the brewery was interesting. We were not allowed where the actual bottling was done but could look through the window. We were provided a snack by Belikin where we enjoyed steamed shrimp and other hors d′oeuvres. Each person was allowed to drink as much beer as they wanted but you weren't allowed to take any with you. Some were feeling no pain when they left.
When we arrived back at the shore before taking the taxi boat back to the ship, we had a few cocktails at one of the restaurants and did a little shopping. It was really a nice experience in Belize and maybe one day we will go back. Who knows we just might take that drive.
