Biloxi, MS

Biloxi is a city in Harrison County, Mississippi, in the United States. The 2000 census recorded the population as 50,644, although the 2008 Census Estimate placed the population at 45,670. Along with Gulfport, Biloxi is a county seat of Harrison County.

The city is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area and the Gulfport-Biloxi-Pascagoula, Mississippi Combined Statistical Area. Pre-Katrina, Biloxi was the third largest city in Mississippi; but with its population losses following that storm, Hattiesburg now has that distinction.

The beachfront of Biloxi lies directly on the Mississippi Sound, with barrier islands scattered off the coast and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Keesler Air Force Base lies within the city and is home to the 81st Training Wing and the 403rd Wing of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

More . . .

We traveled through Biloxi approximately a year after Hurricane Katrina and Route 90 East was devastating. The frames of homes and churches still stood but no windows or doors. The infamous Waffle House entire building was gone just leaving its foundation and a piece of a hanging sign so you knew what was there. The souvenir shop was still standing tall on its stilts, but no windows or anything in side. The beach suffered from the hurricane as well with the pier being broken in the middle. It was a sad site to see what use to be a booming and vibrant area so ghostly and destroyed.

On the high note, a number of places didn't suffer as much damage and was up and running. A beautiful site to see is the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. This casino must have everything inside you can imagine from the finest restaurants to the finer stores for your shopping pleasure. It was around Christmas time so everything was very festive. We hope to make Biloxi our home sometime within the next 2–5 years. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to visit again long before that.
