Arch At Land's End

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas, commonly called Cabo, is a city at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, in the municipality of Los Cabos in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. The largest community in the Los Cabos municipality, and second-largest in Baja California Sur after La Paz, it has experienced very rapid growth and development, often with adverse environmental impact.

Cabo is known for its sandy beaches, world-class scuba diving locations, balnearios, distinctive sea arch El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, and abundant marine life. The Los Cabos Corridor has become a heavily trafficked holiday destination with numerous resorts and timeshares along the coast between San Lucas and San José del Cabo.

Cabo San Lucas has become an important vacation and spa destination, with a great variety of sites of interest, and timeshares that have been built on the coast between San Lucas and San José del Cabo. The distinctive El Arco de Cabo San Lucas is a local landmark. Cabo San Lucas has the largest marlin tournament in the world. In the winter, pods of whales can be observed in the ocean. They bear their calves in the warm waters there.

More . . .

We arrived on February 9th, my birthday, around 8:00AM and stayed until 6:00PM. The morning sunrise was beautiful and the Arch At Land's End rock formation as you arrive into shore, was simply amazing. Cabo San Lucas is a part of the Baja California Peninsula which features desert terrain and rugged coastlines marked by many unusual formations. It is considered different from the other "Mexican Riviera" locations because it is separated and isolated from the mainland of Mexico and they have closer ties to the US than the rest. You can actually drive from California to the tip of Cabo San Lucas. We had a few hours before taking our Coastal Highlights excursion for the day so we took the tender to shore early. Getting a suite for the cruise truly has it perks, we had a meeting place before going to board the tender. There was a huge long line, but we didn't have to wait.

Prior to the excursion we explored Cabo San Lucas port by walking around through the various shops and enjoyed a cold beer at the market place. Then we were taken to the CaboWabo Cantina where you find it's famous shopping and restaurant area by bike taxi. Along the way I stopped at the pharmacia to load up on my meds since they are so much cheaper there. We dined at the Taco Loco where we had a variety of tacos filled with chicken, pork, fish and the double red X beer. There were t-shirts everywhere. If you view the t-shirt picture in the photo gallery, enlarge and you will see all kinds of sayings, some may make you blush.

Our Coastal Highlights excursion took us to visit one of the local glass-blowing factories, north to the picturesque town of San Jose del Cabo to visit the mission church and it's shady tree–lined plaza. After visiting the plaza, Rob took me for a birthday lunch at one of the local restaurants where they gave me my hand-blown margarita glass. We also stopped at the Cacti Mundo, an ecological cactus garden with over 750 species of cactus – check out Mickey Mouse in the photo gallery. From there we drove past residential districts, the hotel zone and stopped at the Sunset Da Giorgio's Restaurant where we enjoyed a cold beer and beautiful views of the Cabo San Lucas Bay. We could even see our ship from here. It was truly a beautiful site to see. If you have $300,000 lying around and you want a nice condo with a perfect view, this would be the place to go, they still have some available. Did I mention that the nicer hotels are also gated. We had a wonderful time here and arrived back at the shore in time to catch the last tender back to the ship before sailing at 6PM.

Los Cabos is one of Mexico's largest destinations. There are three areas included in the resort: Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo anchor the resort strip and are separated by the 29km Corridor.
