Camden, SC
Camden is the oldest inland city and the fourth oldest city in the state of South Carolina. In 1730, Camden became part of a township plan ordered by King George II. Kershaw County’s official web site states, “Originally laid out in 1732 as the town of Fredricksburg in the Wateree River swamp (south of the present town) when King George III ordered eleven inland townships established along South Carolina's rivers, few of the area settlers chose to take lots surveyed in the town, choosing the higher ground to the north. The township soon disappeared.” In 1758, Joseph Kershaw, from Yorkshire, England came into the township, established a store and renamed the town Pine Tree Hill. Camden became the inland trade center in the colony. Kershaw suggested that the town be renamed Camden, in honor of Lord Camden, the champion of colonial rights

Our first trip for Twenty 09 took us to Camden, SC where we joined family and friends to celebrate another new year. Betty truly went all out with traditional New Year's Day dinner as well as baking a number of pies and cakes. There was laughter through the day with chatter about this and chatter about that. Rob's brother and sister-in-law moved south before we did. They have a lovely home in Camden, SC surrounded by beautiful trees. The surrounding area is very pleasant and peaceful.
Before and after dinner we all were taking pictures and reminiscing over the years gone by. We met and made new friends and ate well. I had a chance to play with my camcorder to try it out and see if I can work it, and surprisingly I did capture a little of our day. We look forward to many more visits with everyone and wish each and everyone of you a healthy and prosperous New Year in Twenty 09.
