Cape Canaveral, FL

Cape Canaveral, from the Spanish Cabo Cañaveral, is a headland in Brevard County, Florida, United States, near the center of the state's Atlantic coast. Known as Cape Kennedy from 1963 to 1973, it lies east of Merritt Island, separated from it by the Banana River. It is part of a region known as the Space Coast, and is the site of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Since many U.S. spacecraft are launched from both the station and the Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, the terms "Cape Canaveral," "Canaveral" or even "The Cape" have become metonyms that refer to both as the launch site of spacecraft. In homage to its spacefaring heritage, the Florida Public Service Commission allocated "321" as the telephone area code for Cape Canaveral and surrounding counties.

What a beautiful place to visit. We stayed in Cape Canaveral at the Radisson Resort at the Port before and after our cruise to the Bahamas. It is adjacent to Cocoa Beach so you can have the best of both worlds. Our venture out on Route "A1A", this was a true siteseeing adventure. We also wound up in Cocoa Beach during this drive. There are many places to see and stay while you are here. If you are taking a cruise from Port Canaveral, I recommend the Radisson if you are driving down, because they offer a stay & cruise package. The package includes your hotel stay, allows you to leave your car at the hotel while you′re cruising and provide shuttle service to and from the ship. Yes, they also have park & drive at the ship port if you choose not to stay as well. This is where we stayed before and after the cruise.

Upon our return on Thursday we dined at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill in Port Canaveral in the early afternoon and that evening we boarded the SunCruz Casino for an evening of cruising around Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral and Port Canaveral. We actually passed right by the NASA – Kennedy Space Center where a launch occured the day before our return. There are many things to do while at the Cape or just head on over to the beach and relax.
