Las Vegas

Las Vegas is the most populous city in Nevada, United States, the seat of Clark County, and an internationally renowned major resort city for gambling, shopping and fine dining. Las Vegas, which bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of casino resorts and associated entertainment. A growing retirement and family city, it is the 28th most populous city in the United States with an estimated population by the U.S. Census Bureau of 567,641 as of 2009. The 2009 population estimate of the Las Vegas metropolitan area was 1,902,834.

Established in 1905, Las Vegas officially became a city in 1911. With the growth that followed, at the close of the century Las Vegas was the most populous American city founded in the 20th century (a distinction held by Chicago in the 19th century). The city's tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs. There are numerous outdoor lighting displays on Fremont Street, as well as elsewhere in the city.

The name Las Vegas is often applied to unincorporated areas that surround the city, especially the resort areas on and near the Las Vegas Strip. The 4.2 mi (6.8 km) stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard known as the Strip is mainly in the unincorporated communities of Paradise and Winchester, while a small portion overlaps into Las Vegas and the unincorporated community of Enterprise.

More. . .

"What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas"! Sin City capitol of the world. There′s no place like Vegas. You can travel there each month of the year and find something different that you didn't do before. We have been to Vegas on three occasions: Peg′s birthday and each time after our visit to Laughlin, NV. On one visit we set aside one day to see the lower end of the strip. We took a taxi to the end and walked backed to the Paris Las Vegas. During our walk back we stopped at every casino within the 2 1/2 mile area. The Veneitan provided a lovely ride in a Gondola with music, the sun and a memorable photograph. The Wynn has an outdoor seating area with a bar overlooking their man–made lake with a waterfall and statues appearing to be standing on water. My fun spot is Circus–Circus – it is so busy and there′s hardly any room to move about comfortably; so what, you′re in Vegas. The picture of the Stardust Casino is a year before they tore it down. It had already closed at the time we were there.

The next day we walked in the opposite direction, hitting all the casinos on the way. Like Circus–Circus, New York New York is just as crowed and truly reminds you of being in New York City. Mandalay Bay is where we saw the DelaHoya/Webber fight. It was our first in person fight and a great experience. Little did we know while enjoying the fight they would serve you your favorite beverage and the cost was just a "tip". The more the tip, the more they came back with a refresher and they remembered what you were drinking. Ha!Ha! MGM and Excalibur are in worlds of their own. They are elaborate in style with a comfort zone while gambling.

On another visit we had the chance to stay at Caesars Palace. It is beautiful inside and out. The rooms are fantastic. Don′t want the sun in your eyes, just push the drapery button next to the bed and they will close for you. Another attractive and very upscale casino is the Bellagio. Their playing tables and slot machines are spacious without over crowding the person next to you. Off the strip we visited the infamous "Rio" where none other than my favorite artist Prince performed. I really did not like this casino and I guess it was basically because there was a different type of crowd there than the others, but still a nice place to visit. I could go on and on about Vegas but I′ll wait until our next visit to add more. Vegas′s has so much more to see and do than you can imagine.
