I24 to I40 and we arrive in Memphis, TN on the famous Beale Street where you can find barbecue, blues and rock & roll. Beale Street is located near the Mississippi River, so you can stay in Memphis or take I40 cross the Mississippi and stay in West Memphis, Arkansas. Memphis is known as the birthplace of rock & roll, for the Martin Luther King, Jr. civil rights movement, the Delta Blues to the King of Rock & Roll and the Memphis Redwings Baseball Stadium.
We walked along Beale Street peering in various store fronts and actually going in some. Our favorite store was the Memphis Music Store. Whatever type of music you are looking for can be found right here. While strolling along we worked up an appetite so we stopped at King's Palace Cafe for their "Cajun Sampler" and then on to the "Hard Rock Cafe" for a couple of cocktails. Among the various clubs on Beale Street you will find B.B. King's Blues Club, Coyote Ugly Saloon, the Rum Boogie Cafe and many, many more, most providing live music nightly. You are guaranteed to have a wonderful time no matter what type of music or food you like, they have it all from 5–star to back alley.
Not interested in the hustle and bustle of Beale Street, there are several free things to do while you're there. From the A. Schwab's Dry Goods Store, Beale Street Historic District, Cotton Museum's Hall of Fame or strolling down Cotten Row along Front Street and, of course, beautiful sunsets. There's something for everyone. Parking is plentiful or check into one of the hotels and just walk around the entire area at your own pace.
