Santo Tomas, Guatemala

Your portal to the fascinating Mayan ruins of Guatemala and Honduras: the mighty Acropolis of Quirigua National Park and Copan, Paris of the ancient Mayan lost world. Each an enigma waiting to be solved. Santo Tomas is Guatemala's largest port on the Caribbean Sea; it was formerly known as Matias de Galvez. Dont miss the Temples of Tikal in the dense Petan Jungle.

More . . .

Santo Tomas, Guatemala is a part of the Western Caribbean cruise. It is located in Central America between Honduras and Belize. Maya Indians make up approximately 66% of the island where you have twenty-one different ethnic groups to make up the cultural and ethnic weave and which is becoming one of Guatemala′s most populous cities. Although there are no prestigious Guatemalan beaches and the more popular Mayan ruins, the port still manages to give visitors a good taste of the local culture.

Although we didn′t do much here the cruise line offered various tours to the ruins at Quiriguá, the Dulce River, Lake Izabel, the San Felipe Spanish fortress and the towns of Puerto Barrios and Livingston. We did disembark and walked around the booths where natives were selling crafts, food items and so on and tasted one of their local drinks. When the ship was ready to sail the locals provided song, dance and horn blowing to send us on our way.
